Kun joku kysyy tätä lähes viikoittain, niin laitetaan se nyt omalla otsikollakin.
The correct proccedure for adjusting the steering gear calls for some very specialized tools and if you don't have them, some really educated feel. The tendency is to over-adjust steering gears and then they get pretty notchy in the center and give a VERY strange feel. So, to adjust without a rolling torque wrench and a Pitman arm puller..you.. Jack up the front of the car so you can really feel the play in the steering. The spec is about 25mm measured at the steering wheel rim. ie: 25mm of free play is the most allowed (1"). On top of the steering gear is a locknut with an allen screw going down thru the center of it. Hold the allen and loosen the lock nut. MB steering gears adjust OPPOSITE of normal gears. To remove play you UNSCREW the allen while holding the loosened lock nut. Adjust in 1/4 turn intervals until the play seems to decrease and you move the steering wheel back and forth to establish the play zone. Look at the front tire while moving the steering wheel and you will get a feel for it. DO NOT adjust the play to any less than about 15mm or you will be getting it too tight. Hold the allen and tighten the locknut..Before you start this adjusting proccedure, make sure that the play is in the steering gear and not the steering linkage. Check all of the rod ends, tie rods, drag link, idler arm bushings etc:. Repair any loose steering components BEFORE attempting to adjust the gear..
