Hello!

Here is the story about my Mercedes 190E turbo conversion. I have designed the project with the scientific "trial and error" method ,-)

A K03 on a 2.3L? That turbo is already small for a 1.8L engine. You need something closer to a T3-60 to keep up with your engine.

The engine is actually a 2.0 L but you're right about the K03 being too small. The new turbo MHI TD04HL is the same as in Volvo 850 2.0 with 210 horsepowers so it should be better. It should spool much faster than the old Garretts, too.

Here are a few photos of the project. More at project site.

...and the IAT and TPS a little closer. The hose size from the intercooler to the throttle is 2.5"

The mechanical parts should be OK now. The next task is the tuning of the ECU maps.

In the picture you can see the first test run from 0 to 200 km/h (0 to 124 mph). The quartermile took about 16.0 @ 89 mph (143 km/h)and the standing kilometre about 29.0 @ 114 mph (183 km/h). So, there is a lot to improve. I'm satisfied, though, that the boost (Map) stays nicely at around 7 psi (0.5 bar) and the air fuel ratio (AFR) is fairly stable under 11.4. The turbo also spools very good, it gives 3 psi (0.2 bar) at 1800 rpm in first gear. More about the project here.

New best ET now 14.869 @ 95.11 MPH (153.06 km/h). Hereis a little writing about it.

Clutch troubles and new goodies

I did get the ET down to around 14.75 last summer. This summer has literally gone changing the autotrans to a five speed manual. Now the trouble is the slipping clutch from C230K, C280 and C220 CDI which should transmit 315 Nm. My next clutch comes from SRE when my budget allows it ,-) I have added a Davies Craig EWP80 electric water pump with electronic controller to my cooling system. It has worked perfectly and it drives the electric fan motor, too. It has an cool down system that runs the water pump and fan when the engine is stopped.

My TD04HL-13G turbo is getting a 19T compressor upgrade when the clutch issue is solved. I also have an OMEX Clubman Launch Control waiting for more power and better friction.

The engine is now a C200 Kompressor with 141 kW. The next steps are an ASD 3.92 fully locking diff and an Adaptronic e420d ECU. More info in the signature link.
