From Portugal ... hello

Hi there everyone!
I'm so glad i found this forum!!!

First off all congratulations to Finland for the fantastic mercedes mechanics & enthusiast!

Well, i have a Mercedes 190D and i'm changing the car. I'm getting a new engine, new suspensions and everything. I already have suspensions but i must get the engine.

I have the 2.5TD 10v engine and the 20v DOHC available. What is your advise about the better engine?

So, i was thinking on getting to the 200HP ( or a little more ) with this mods

- Turbo, Injectors, fuel pump, exhaust, intake, intercooler.

I would like to have your help and do you know of good parts for this car and how can i buy them?

i would be very thankfull if you could help me along with this project

just one thing, for the 250TD 20v i have no eletronics, so the car will be mechanical injection.

Hello

Both engines will perform fine, and that +200 hp is no problem for either one. OM602 can deliver +350 hp and OM605 possibly +400 hp.

Injectors changed, no. Normal injectors will do, these are not TDi:s or CDi:s :D

Pump can be modified here in Finland, but the best-in-business shop, Mynädiesel., also other parts are available.

Is your car with 300HP and more are easy to use? for example in mountain road ... car we have fun with it or is it too hard to control?

I regularry drive the car with full power, +400 hp car is still easy to use. It is also easy to make a switch to dashboard to drop off most of the power, for excample during winter time.

Nice! :) For this the best 17s yes? i was going on 16s but with 300HP, 350HP or whatever, i better stick it on the ground! In winter, there in Finland you have the snow/ice problem no? This is in Portugal, it seems it's summer, but it's cold ... just how a good diesel with turbo and intercooler likes ;)

one more thing i... do you have a periodic inspection to your car? here in Portugal once a year we must get the car to an inspection center ir order to do some tests in the suspension and engine to see if the car is still in conditions to be driven in public roads... my question is, about exhaust emissions ... with this modified pump, won't it fail on the tests due to over limit exhaust emissions? what's the trick, just lower the pump injection values and then get them back up when i'm through?

Yes, we have a similar system.

It won't fail.
It passes tests as a regular pump.
On the presumtion that the engine itself is in a good condition.

It won't fail.

The turbo specialists should answer to this question (I think they'll be busy during this weekend ;) ), but I think the passing these exhaust test also depens of the year the car is made. Different goverments might have different laws and regulations. In Finland emissions aren't tested at all if your diesel car is made before 1980 or petrol car is made before 1978. There is also another limit which maybe is 1987 (emissions must be lower if a car is newer) for a car with a diesel engine. You should check if there are similar or different emission laws in Portugal which allow more emissions for an older car.

A year has passed and it seems that everything went fine since there was no additional questions. :roll:

Well that car suffered a total remake. The engine is laying at my garage waiting that the owner as some free time to start working. I've been talking with Melitos for a long time now and he's a great person, always ready to help and a good friend. :)

About those inspections, i have that modified pump on my -98 vechile, and the engine doubtless have power increased about 100%. I just got it inspected again with very low pollution index. The result is even better compared to original vechiles. The engine is marked as a low emission engine, but the trick is just to make some minor adjustment before inspection. This kind of adjustment takes not more but 5 minutes time.

The pump is made in Mynä-Diesel, i can recommend that service place.

...but yes, seriously talking it maybe difficult to get pump modified from outside of Finland, maybe easiest way is to start planning a holiday trip to here. Actually i'm the wrong person to answer if Myna-Diesel is able (interest) to send pumps to foreign countries....hmm i see a bisnes opportunity there :D

BTW, one way is to put a purchase announcment to this forum. There has been some myna-pumps available enery now and then but it's quite unusual. The correct place is "Ostetaan osia" in this forum.

Obviously there is lot of forum people travelling inside germany if that assist the issue somehow.

...and Finland is really nice country to spend summer holidays, even Conan o'Brien, that sly dog, is here currently :shock:

I believe he owns the shop, or at least works there. If I can mail a pump to him from the USA, it should be no problem for you in Portugal.

Suits really nicely to the W201 but I think they'd look good on C124 too...

for the wheels, they are 7.5x17" EVOII wheels :) Go to a Mercedez Benz dealer near you.

As for Finland, how much times does it takes to do the pump mods? :) maybe i'll go a week or so

They are able to modify pump within one day but there is huge order book so it is important to request the day in good time before pump modification is planned to do. Just ask by Antti, he will tell more about details.
