Help with 300td 24v (OM606) swap

Viesti Kirjoittaja kernel »

I'm from Bulgaria! I want to install 300td 24v into my mercedes G for offroad competition. Now after I took-off the motor from the E-class it comes the problem with the diesel pump. The original pump fitted with that motor is electric with board computer which control both pump and the automatic transmission. Some guys told me to use the pump from 300td (603 144h.p.) or 350TD, its the same. But I'm not sure what else I have to know? I heard that the turbo can't be controlled anymore and should be replaced or tunned somehow to stop when reach some high rpm, I was told to get the fuel filter holder and some connections from my old diesel engine. Let me know what I should do please! Any suggestions from people who has done this are welcome. By the way I'm going to install 6 speed manual transmission from CLK and remove the automatic transmission which cames with computer as well.

Also, I'm interested in that Superturbo .. maybe i can use it since its not controlled electroically?! Do I get 446 hp just by changing it? If not how much?

Looks like you have to install a mechanical diesel pump. If that E-class om606 has a vnt turbo, it cannot be controlled, if the electronics are taken away. If you have time and intetrest, you might be able to do a controller for vnt turbo. It isnt quite easy. Id changed the turbo to a regular one, without vnt. Doing so you might lose some low end power. You need a diesel pump with bigger elements, BIG turbo (hx40 or similar) and a large intercooler. The engines for superturbos are normally driven 500 000km and then repaired if necessary. There are some tricks that help to get ridiculous hp:s out of om 606. With manual gearbox there is a problems with the clutch, "normally tuned" superturbo can reach 700Nm+ of torque, which comes, if i remember about 2500 rpm. Those superturbo mods are usually quite expensive, when you are going 300+hp. Strengthened gearbox is also a must, with superturbo torq you might need also strenhtgened driveshafts. Is the clk transmission combetible with the diesel, i dont know. Good luck for the prog. More information i can translate, if asked.
The normal dieselpump from 603 is good for about just over 200hp.
Modified pump costs more, but you will get better value/hp with modified pump. Here in Finland there are mynä diesel and ppd diesel which both have worked out with the superturbo pumps.

Thank you very much for the information! Could you give me website addresses for the stores that sell the tuning kits for this engines?

I thing, that in bulgaria there might be a dieselspecialists, but you might have to send the pump somewhere for mods and adjustments.
Those firms above know a great deal about superturbos.

We've installed the engine with the mechanical diesel pump. Something strange is happening, on little RPM (under 2000) the engine is acting very slowly .. but over 2000 when the turbo switch on it goes crasy.. Im wondering how to increase the start power... ?!

Is your mechanical pump an original pump from a turbo engine ?
If so, do you take the boost line for the ALDA straight from the intake manifold or have you the original overboost protection switch in between ?

Anyway adjusting the ALDA is the easyest way to get a little more power for the lower RPMs, lets see if somebody can give a good info for that.

EDIT: I found some instructions for ALDA adjusment, this is for the older OM617 engine but the principals are the same.

Hi. It's taken from MB124 300TD. If you are talking about the pipe in the turbo, we make hole on the right end and connected it there because in 606 its operated electronically. We also changed the vacum to work opposite.
